We are out of here!

I’m way behind on blogging, and email, but you know what… I don’t care. We’re leaving for a well deserved vacation. We’re off to Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois for about a week. It has been a struggle (to say the least) wrapping up work before tomorrow, but I did it.

I may be posting from the road if I get a chance, but I’m not sure what kind of access I’ll have.

If I owe you an email… be patient. I will get back to you.

Where can I get an AGP video card with an ADC connection?

I’m currently using a PowerMac G5, with two 17″ cinema displays. Everything is about four years old. I’m hoping to buy a new Mac later this year, but for now I’m feeling my computers age when I try to run some modern apps.

One bottleneck is the outdated 64MB video card (split between 2 displays, 32MB each). I was hoping to find a relatively inexpensive card (under $200) that would help out until I get my new system. Due to the age and type of equipment, I’m having an extremely hard time finding a card that will work in my system.

Here’s what I’m looking for… AGP (8x) video card with 1 DVI and 1 ADC connector, with at least 128MB vRAM. I can’t use PCI because it doesn’t support Quartz Extreme (requires PCI Express, which I don’t have). I also can’t use a card with only DVI connections, since my displays use ADC (Apple Display Connector). I’m already using a DVI to ADC Adapter to attach my second display and I don’t want to buy another one ($99).

You wouldn’t think that this would be so freakin difficult, but it’s the combination of AGP and ADC that’s hard to find. If anyone knows where I can actually buy such a card please let me know. You’ll have my eternal gratitude.

Rick, Steve, or Mike

Elvis Presley Movies

I was just taking a little break for lunch, and there happened to be an Elvis movie on TV. I was reminded of the fact that in almost every movie Elvis made, his character’s name was Rick, Steve, Mike, or some other macho one-syllable name.

He also rarely played just a singer. He was always a singer/race car driver, singer/scuba diver, singer/pilot, or singer/…, well you get the idea.

Oh, if only life could be like the movies.

The Simpsons Movie

The Simpsons Movie

3 Stars

This past weekend we went and saw The Simpsons Movie. Well, I should say that I went and saw it, and I dragged Anne Marie along kicking and screaming. She’s not really a Simpsons fan.

I would say that it was OK. Not great, but OK. I went in thinking it could really suck, as so many things do when moving from the small screen to the big. But, I found it entertaining and enjoyable.

The reason I say it wasn’t great, is because it was basically just a long episode. There wasn’t anything particular movie-worthy about it. It could have stayed on the small screen.

I also marked it down just a bit because I think they took it down a notch from the TV show. For instance, there isn’t a single drop of blood in the entire movie… not even during the Itchy and Scratchy segment. That’s just wrong. I’m assuming they did this to ensure that it got a kid-friendly rating, but as it is, I’m surprised it was rated PG-13. I would have given it a G. It doesn’t seem quite right that you can get away with more on TV than you can in a movie.

If you’re a Simpsons fan, it’s worth checking out. Just don’t go in with extremely high expectations.

Giant Drag Covers Wicked Game

Giant Drag

I don’t watch the show, Nip/Tuck, but lately I’ve been seeing a lot of commercials for the new season featuring a cover of Chris Isaak’s classic song, Wicked Game. It sounded really great so I went looking for it on iTunes. I’ve come to realize that Wicked Game must be one of the worlds most covered songs, as there is about 75 different versions of it available through iTunes. Luckily, I was able to find the version I was looking for. It’s by a duo named, Giant Drag. It’s worth checking out if you’re a fan of the song.

You may also want to just search iTunes for, “Wicked Game”. Some of the other versions are really good too.
