The Chapin Sisters… Tonight!

The Chapin Sisters

If you live in The Bay Area, and you like indie/folk/rock music, tonight is your lucky night. One of my favorite bands, The Chapin Sisters, is playing tonight at the Hemlock Tavern. The show starts at 9:30pm, and costs $6. The girls are playing with Dame Satan, and Willow Willow. I’m not sure who’s going on first.

I’m going to do my best to make it over there tonight, but I’m not sure our new puppy is quite ready to be left home alone. If I make it, and you do too, maybe we’ll have a beer.

If you can’t make it to tonight’s show, than tomorrow (29th) is your lucky day as well. You won’t get to see the sisters, but you will get to see one of my other favorite bands, Judith and Holofernes. They are a local Bay Area band that I really like a lot. They’re playing at Hotel Utah, with Michael Zapruder’s Rain of Frogs, Golden Birds, and Leyna Noel. The show starts at 8:00pm and costs $6.

Our new doggie…

Our New Dog

As mentioned in a previous post, we’ve been in the process of looking for a dog. It’s been a little difficult, but today that search came to an end. :)

This little girl is the newest member of our family. She’s a one and a half year old Australian Shepherd / hound mix. At least, that’s what the nice folks down at the San Francisco SPCA think.

She doesn’t have a name yet, so if anyone has any suggestions…

UPDATE: There’s another image of her on my photoblog. I’m sure more will be coming.

UPDATE #2 (7.05.06): We finaly picked a name, it’s Maggie Moo. I personally voted for Itchy McMoo, but Anne Marie didn’t go for it. So far she’s turmed out to be a really wonderful dog.

Apple TV ads on other sites

Apple ads

Look what I came across on the Wall Street Journal… it’s one of the new Apple TV ads. Correct me if I’m wrong, but historically speaking, the only two places I’ve seen Apple play their TV ads are either on TV, or on apple.com. I don’t recall them playing them on other sites.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there is anything wrong with this. In fact, I’ve always thought Apple should be a little more aggressive in there advertising. I was just surprised because I don’t recall them doing this in past years, and I didn’t realize they had started opening up their commercials as general advertising.

Jobs, Gates, Mossberg

Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Walt Mossberg

Oh how I would have loved to be sitting at this table. From left to right, that’s Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and technology columnist, Walt Mossberg. They all sat together for a snack at the D4: All Things Digital conference. What do you think they are talking about?

There are many other photos in this gallery (multiple pages), in some of them Steve and Bill seem to be having some laughs. Maybe they aren’t the mortal enemies that we always assume.

UPDATE: Someone calling themselves Walt Mossberg left a comment on this post, with a correction… these photos were actually taken at the D3 conference, in May, 2005. I’ve confirmed that these were taken at D3, but now the only question is, was that really Walt Mossberg visiting my humble little blog? If it really was you, Walt, I’ll casually say… Thanks for stopping by, please come back again (while I think to myself… That’s so freakin cool! Walt Mossberg read my blog!). Alternatively, if that was some prankster out there, I’ll say… you suck! (as I think to myself… You Suck!).

Before & After: Free design tips

Before & After

If you are unfamiliar with Before and After Magazine, here is a blurb from their site…

“Before & After magazine has been sharing its practical approach to graphic design since 1990. Because our modern world has made designers of us all (ready or not), Before & After is dedicated to making graphic design understandable, useful and even fun for everyone.”

To further their efforts, Before & After produces a series of downloadable tutorials on various design related subjects. Most of them require a paid subscription to access, but occasionally they put out one for free. Todays free issue deals with color, and how you can change the look of a photograph, by surrounding it with a different color palette.

You can also still access a couple of the previous free downloads from the home page.
