Everything is Illuminated

2.5 Stars

Yesterday we saw the new Elijah Wood movie, Everything is Illuminated. We hadn’t really planned to see it, we were out and about and stopped at the theater, and it was the next movie playing.

Synopsis from Apple.com

Based on the critically-acclaimed novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, “Everything is Illuminated” tells the story of a young man’s quest to find the woman who saved his grandfather in a small Ukrainian town that was wiped off the map by the Nazi invasion.

As with most movies I see… I think it was OK, nothing great. I think it suffered from lack of editing, parts of the movie tended to drag. I also thought that at times it was maybe a little too quirky… being quirky for quirky sake, and it didn’t add anything to the story. I did like the interaction between the characters. All the characters seemed to develop a vested interest in a journey started by one man.

Although the film has some funny moments, it’s definitely a downer. Don’t go in looking for a good time.
