VOOM = dead:
“VOOM, Cablevision’s high-definition satellite TV service, has been on the ropes more or less since the day it launched (which has something to do with hardly anyone actually being interested in it—they only have a grand total of 26,000 subscribers), but after more than a year of losing money, Cablevision has decided they can take no more and are selling off the entire operation to Echostar. The price? Just $200 million, or less than it cost to put the damn satellite in orbit in the first place. VOOM will keep going during the ‘transition period,’ but Echostar has made it clear that they’re already looking at ways to use Cablevision’s satellite to ‘enhance’ its DISH Network satellite TV service.”
