Comments are back

So I’ve turned comments back on for the site. It works a little differently than it did before though. For the time being, all comments must be manually approved, by me, before they are posted to the site. I won’t be censoring legitimate comments, I’m just weeding out comment spam. Post comments as you normally would. But keep in mind that they won’t show up on the site until I approve them.

It sucks that I have to do this, but it’s the only way I can prevent comment spam, at least for now. I am looking into several security options for the site. I’ll get some better options in place as soon as I get a chance.

I emailed Inna Fridman (the spammer), her host, and the online gambling company she is affiliated with. I didn’t get a response from any of them. SPAMMERS SUCK!

Inna Fridman Sucks Ass !

So over the last few days I’ve been bombarded with comment spam for an online poker site. I have been forced to temporarily disable commenting on my site. The woman who owns the domain name responsible for this spam is named Inna Fridman. I would like to say… Hay, Inna Fridman, YOU SUCK ASS!

I actually googled her, and found a similar post on another blog. That guy had the same problem with comment spam. Inna was using a different domain on him, but it is the same kind of comment spam attack. He actually went as far as to publish her Domain Registrant info, with a suggestion that we should email her, and her host, etc… I think that’s a great idea.

I have learned that Inna doesn’t actually have a poker service of her own. She is an affiliate of empirepoker(dot com), which is managed by a man named Jim Stewart. I think he is just as responsible for this spam as Inna. So… Hey, Jim Stewart, YOU SUCK ASS!

I HATE SPAMMERS! They are a cancer on the internet. I think we should all email Inna Fridman and tell her how we feel about spam.

Make your own photo mosaics

Bill Gates Mosaic

via engadget
This week’s How-To shows how to take just about any ordinary image you’ve taken with your digital camera (or from the web) and make a photo mosaic. A photo mosaic is one large image made out of hundreds and thousands of tiny images from your personal stash, from google images or even frames from a movie. There are a few applications that do this for free, on Macs / PCs, and we’ll show you where to get them and how to use them.

New color iPod ?

via Cnet News
Apple Computer has scheduled a special event for next week, fueling speculation that the company could be ready to introduce an updated model of its iPod digital music player.

In an invitation to the event, Apple said only that “Steve Jobs, Bono and The Edge invite you to a special event.” Bono and The Edge are members of the band U2, whose song “Vertigo” is featured in an Apple commercial and is also the top-selling song at Apple’s iTunes Music Store.

An Apple representative declined to comment on the event, which is slated for Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. PDT at San Jose’s California Theater.

Rumors have been swirling that Apple is readying a color-screen version of its iPod with an ability to display photos as well as play music. The company has also pledged to expand its iTunes music store to more European countries sometime this month and has yet to announce the move. More…

Shaun of the Dead

Shaun of the Dead

2 Stars

Last night we saw Shaun of the Dead. I would have to say this was only mildly entertaining. It did have a few funny spots, but overall it wasn’t that great. Like a lot of movies, it could have used some more editing. It seemed a bit long. It was also far more gory than I had expected. A couple of scenes inparticular, that I won’t give away. I wouldn’t try to talk someone out of seeing Shaun of the Dead, but I wouldn’t really recommend it either.

FarScape: From the beginning

FarScape on SciFi

5 Stars

The SciFi channel has been playing all 88 episodes of FarScape, from the beginning. They are playing 8 episodes a day, for 11 days. Today was day 8. It’s all counting down to a new FarScape mini-series premiering Sunday night. It has been awesome! I never really got to watch this show when it was in production because I didn’t have cable. Now I get them all at once. If you haven’t been watching so far, you can still see the last 24 epsodes, from Wednessday – Friday, and then the new mini-series this weekend.

Most common monitor resolution

I came across an interesting statistic at OneStat.com. It says that 1024 x 768 has finially taken over as the most common minitor resolution. It’s about time! As a developer of intertactive media, this is a long awaited transition. I’m tired of having to squeeze a client’s info into 800 x 600. Although I’m not sure if I can make the switch just yet. As you can see, there are still a relatively significant number of users at 800 x 600, but it won’t be long now.

Most Common Monitor Resolutions:

1. 1024 x 768 54.02%
2. 800 x 600 24.66%
3. 1280 x 1024 14.1%
4. 1152 x 864 4%
5. 1600 x 1200 0.8%
6. 640 x 480 0.6%
7. 1152 x 870 0.1%
